This website is designed as an interactive, online introduction to learning about production lines for Year 3/4 students.
The content descriptor which my resource aligns with is derived from the Australian Curriculum: Design and Technology Knowledge and Understanding: “Investigate the suitability of materials, systems, components, tools and equipment for a range of purposes (ACTDEK013)” (ACARA, 2105).
The complimentary content descriptor which supports the resource I am proposing is taken from the Design and Technologies Processes and Production skills strand of the Australian Curriculum: “Plan a sequence of production steps when making designed solutions individually and collaboratively (ACTDEP018)” (ACARA, 2015). I intend to include some articles which also further develop student’s knowledge.
It is envisaged that students will use this website as a inquiry based introduction to the topic. The videos, images and downloadable activities are designed to capture students attention and spark their enthusiasm for engaging in a Design and Technology unit.
The desired outcome of this Design and Technology unit is that students will create their own production line to make sandwiches for the canteen. In small groups students will investigate production lines, plan their sequence and test the systems, components and tools necessary for completing a successful production line.
This resource is designed not only as an introduction to the topic but also as a point of reference which may be used throughout the unit.
